History and etymology

Conceptualized and developed by Raffles International, the Equinox Complex was opened in November 2001 after Raffles International took over management of the hotel, and replaced the Compass Rose restaurant.[1]

The name Equinox refers to the time when day and night are of equal lengths, a phenomenon which occurs on two days in a year. The theme at the Equinox Complex is to attain perfection and harmony throughout the year.

Facilities

The complex occupies four floors from levels 69 to 72 with about 3,700 square metres of space for five restaurants and bars, with private dining rooms. All five outlets can take in over 900 diners at any one time.

Located on the first floor entrance to the complex is the Introbar, which serves an extensive aperitif selection, including the latest martinis, beers, wines and the house specialty — cocktails. The bar is also known as the Bartenders' Bar as all cocktails are individually mixed at the guests' tables by a team of bartenders. The Introbar serves as a prelude to the main outlets above. Diners can then proceed to dedicated elevators which bring them direct to the top three levels. Located on the 69th floor are four rooms for private dining, offering space for up to 400 for cocktail receptions.

The Equinox Restaurant, serving both Asian and Western cuisines, and Jaan, serving modern French cuisine, are located on the 70th floor. Diners at the Equinox Restaurant are treated with full length glass windows offering a view of Singapore's central business district. Also on the same floor is a club-like lounge called City Space. A second bar, the New Asia Bar, is spread over the 71st and 72nd floors.
